Those of us with the Focus on the Future 2010 Gubernatorial Forum Committee are extremely excited about the event and want to remind all of you that it is fast approaching. In the spirit of providing potential attendees with as much information about the evening as we can, here is a little 411 regarding the big night - May 10th 2010...

We are very excited to announce that David Lipscomb University has been gracious enough to allow us to use its Turning Point Technologies Audience Response Opinion Tracking System. It will allow us to track responses and reactions from 50 attendees as they view the forum from a designated area in the venue. Stay tuned for how to take part in this unique opportunity. The following rules must strictly be followed by all attendees:

Audience members must be in their seats before 6:45 pm. No seating will be allowed after that time.
Audience members should remain silent during the forum, including refraining from applause, unless otherwise directed by the moderator.
No campaign or political materials, including signs, t-shirts, or buttons, will be allowed inside Collins Auditorium.
All other rules applicable to Lipscomb University must be followed

Nashville Junior Chamber to Host Gubernatorial Forum

Candidates to Speak Directly to Young Professionals...

The Nashville Junior Chamber announced that it will host a forum on May 10, 2010 for the candidates in the upcoming governor’s race. The event, “Focusing on the Future: 2010 Gubernatorial Forum,” will provide young professionals across Middle Tennessee with an opportunity to hear from their next governor and specifically address issues that concern the state’s future leaders. All six candidates for governor have confirmed their participation, including Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons, Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam, former House Majority Leader Kim McMillan, Jackson businessman Mike McWherter, Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey, and Congressman Zach Wamp.

The Junior Chamber has teamed up with nearly a dozen other young professional groups to host the forum, which will take place at Lipscomb University. WSMV-TV, Channel 4 News has also expressed interest in broadcasting the event.

“We are very excited at the prospect of bringing all the candidates together to start a dialogue with young professionals in our community,” said Junior Chamber president Jason Denenberg. “This is a very unique opportunity for current and future leaders to come together and discuss the issues facing Middle Tennessee. We are honored to take the lead in this endeavor.”

Those interested in following the process are encouraged to join the group’s Facebook page, “Focusing on the Future: 2010 Gubernatorial Forum Hosted by Nashville’s Young Leaders.” The page will keep interested young professionals updated and give them an opportunity to submit questions to be asked at the forum.

“Young professionals are the future of our community, and it’s crucial that they express their desire to hear from the candidates and play a role in determining who becomes the next governor of Tennessee,” noted Marshall Farmer, the committee chair charged with organizing the forum.

In addition to Farmer, the following young leaders currently serve on the organizing committee: Zach Barker, Justin Owen, Matt Kroplin, Bridget Brodbeck, Josh Guinn, Tommy Williams, Melissa Smith, Lindsey Meyer, Jackie Crumley and Brandon Gee.
